14th E-Commerce Awards:
The E-Commerce Trophies are a professional event organised by the editorial staff of E-Commerce Magazine. The aim is to highlight the best initiatives and the most outstanding players in the sector, while encouraging exchanges and networking between professionals at a major awards evening. It also rewards the E-commerce personalities of the year.
In 2018, GLS France was promoted thanks to GLSROUTE, the GLS application designed to facilitate contact between the deliverer and the recipient.
Last year, it was the project developed with the startup TousFacteurs for alternative bicycle and evening delivery in Paris that won the silver prize in the "Logistics Innovation" category.

Our GLS branch in Pau had the opportunity this Monday to welcome a hairdresser-barber food truck to offer a haircut to those who wanted one or a coffee break for the others, when our delivery staff returned from their rounds.
A very nice local initiative that allowed our colleagues to spend a little time relaxing while taking care of themselves!

GLS opens a new depot in Béziers
In order to strengthen its logistics network in the south of France and the Languedoc Roussillon region, GLS France is opening a brand new agency in Servian, near Béziers, from 1 April 2020. Late pick-ups enable faster parcel delivery in certain parts of the Hérault and Aude regions. GLS is thus responding to the growing increase in the number of private recipients in the region. GLS has invested approximately 200,000 euros in the expansion of its buildings. The former depots in Béziers, Narbonne and part of the Agde/Marseillan/Sérignan site will be integrated into the new building. "This will enable us to harmonize processes and further improve the quality of our services," explains Nicolas Robert, Managing Director of GLS France. The 2,500 m² site has a processing capacity of around 1,600 parcels per day. The new branch is strategically located in the Zone d'Activités de la Baume in Servian, about 15 km north-east of Béziers. Direct access to the A75 and A9 motorways, as well as to the N9 national road, makes it easy to reach the nearest town, Narbonne, as well as other GLS sites. Modern and durable equipment Eighteen delivery rounds will leave from this new site in the region. A new 80-metre, fully motorised conveyor increases productivity and facilitates the work of employees, transport partners and delivery drivers. As part of the ThinkGreen initiative, the branch has also been equipped with solar panels. The energy produced is used 100% for the depot.

Since mid-November 2019, GLS France is testing eVan deliveries for parcels in the city centre of Lille. GLS has chosen the eTGE model from MAN, a manufacturer known for its high reliability in the transport sector. Due to the positive response, the test is planned to be extended over the Christmas peak.
“Due to the eVans we meet the expectations of our customers who are increasingly sensitive to sustainable development. In addition, the maintenance costs are significantly lower compared to conventional vehicles,” explains Klaus Schädle, Group Area Managing Director GLS.
In this way, GLS is also responding to the system of low-emission zones developed by a large number of metropolitan areas in France. These regulations aimed at reducing road congestion and improving air quality, also include access restrictions.
eTGE by MAN
The model eTGE is easy to handle and is characterized by an almost silent parcel delivery. In terms of bodywork, the electric model is similar to the conventional delivery vehicles used by GLS. Its range in real use is about 150 km and, thanks to its volume of 11m³, the eTGE can carry a total load of one ton.
